Heisman Hopefuls: Big game on the stretch run
With only three weeks left to play, many teams are starting to wrap up their season. This week could be the last chance for some of the candidates to show their stuff before Heisman ballots are due.
Expect some fireworks in Norman, Okla., this weekend as No. 2 Texas Tech visits No. 5 Oklahoma. Three Heisman candidates will not only be gunning for a win, but also positioning in the thoughts of Heisman voters.
Michael Crabtree
WR, Texas Tech
Last Week: bye week. Has 78 receptions for 1010 yards and 18 touchdowns. That is about 13 yards per reception and one touchdown ever four receptions.
Next Week: Nov. 22 at No. 5 Oklahoma.
His Chances: Crabtree and the Red Raiders have passed every challenge this season with flying colors. His touchdown against Texas was the play of the year so far and a good game in a win at Oklahoma might secure him the trophy.
Colt McCoy

QB, Texas
Last week: passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-7 win at Kansas.
This week: Nov. 27 vs. Texas A&M.
His chances: The buzz from his strong start has ended now with Texas Tech preparing to battle Oklahoma this weekend. The bye week does not help and he needs a big game against the Aggies and a berth in the Big 12 title game to regain hope.
Tim Tebow
Quarterback, Florida
Last Week: passed for 173 yards and threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more in a 56-6 win over South Carolina.
Next Week: Nov. 22 vs. The Citadel.
His Chances: Tebow’s stats have not been impressive, but many experts think the Gators are the top team in the country right now. He is has been very efficient but not racking up the stats needed to retain the trophy.

Sam Bradford
QB, Oklahoma
Last week: bye week. Has thrown for 3406 yards and 38 touchdowns with only six interceptions.
Next week: Nov. 22 vs. No. 2 Texas Tech.
His chances: Bradford has been putting up the stats, but the Sooners have not won big games. If the quarterback can put in a good performance against the Red Raiders, he has the credentials to still win the trophy.
Graham Harrell
QB, Texas Tech
Last week: Bye week. Harrell has thrown for 4077 yards and 36 touchdowns with only five picks in Texas Tech’s pass-happy offense.
Next week: Nov. 22 at No. 5 Oklahoma
His chances: Harrell continues to perform at a high level. He really has only one more test to lead Texas Tech to its best season in school history.
Keep an Eye On:
Percy Harvin, WR Florida: ran the ball eight times for 162 yards and two touchdowns against South Carolina. Harvin is Florida’s big play receiver/runner and every time he touches the ball could be a touchdown.
Knowshown Moreno, RB Georgia: ran the ball 131 yards on 22 rushes. Scored only a touchdown on a 35-yard reception in Georgia’s 17-13 win at Auburn. Moreno has been a disappointment this season, but then again he is only a sophomore.
Javon Ringer, RB Michigan State: ran for 121 yards on 32 carries and scored twice in a 21-7 win over Purdue. Ringer has put in the stats to win the trophy and the Spartans are starting to climb the rankings. A win or strong performance over Penn State might get him to New York.

How can you not mention the top running back in the country, Shonn Greene?

Agreed. Greene is definitely more worthy of mention than Moreno. He has rushed for over 100 yards in EVERY game and ran for a score in all save one. We are fortunate that we got that win over Iowa.
